What you get
- Every island, free, for the whole beta. All fifteen islands and forty quests, from your first line of Swift to async/await, open from October 26 to November 15.
- Pro for life when you finish the beta and a five-minute survey. No card, no catch: it is our thank-you.
- Your account and progress carry over when SwiftQuest opens to everyone.
What we ask
- Two or three hours a week for three weeks. Week one is the first two islands, week two is islands three to eight, week three is anywhere you like, then the survey.
- Say what happened. A Feedback button sits on every screen. "I didn't understand step 3" is as useful as "the button did nothing".
- Rate each quest with one to five stars at its end. That is how we find the weak ones.
Who we are looking for
Most of all, people who have never written code. You are exactly who the course is for, and the most useful tester we could have.
We also want a few people who know another language and are curious about Swift, and two or three Swift developers to catch anything we teach wrong.
It runs in your browser on a real Swift 6.4 compiler, so a Mac, a Windows PC, a Linux machine or a Chromebook all work. Nothing to install.
How to apply
Fill in the three answers above. Applications close Saturday, October 24. We answer everyone; invitations go out Sunday, October 25, and the beta starts Monday, October 26. If this round is full, you are first in line for the next one, and the first two islands are free for everybody when SwiftQuest opens.
Questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Checkout is switched off during the beta, so no money can move. Testers who finish keep Pro for life.
- I know nothing about programming. Am I welcome?
- You are the person we most want. SwiftQuest starts from your first line.
- Do I need a Mac or Xcode?
- No. Your code runs on our servers and the result comes back to the page. More on learning Swift without a Mac.
- What happens to my data?
- Your reports, ratings and survey stay with your account; you can export or delete them any time. The Privacy Policy says what we keep.
